WELCOME TO ARCHITECTURE

Professor Paul Sanders

Chair of Architecture

The Bachelor of Architectural Design is a 3 year course that introduces students to the breath of architecture through divergent themes of design, culture, history and theory, technology, sustainability, and communication that are synthesised through the core design studios.

The Master of Architecture (Urban Transformation) is a 2-year program that progressively prepares students for the profession through a range of competencies that are assessed as part of our ongoing accreditation with the profession.

At WSU, we place high value on the design of buildings and places that are informed by knowledge of specific context (culture, history, climate, topography...) and an understanding of the impact of the design proposals upon their environments.  The overarching theme of Urban Transformation places our programs firmly within the context of the rapidly developing region of Western Sydney as a focus for design speculation of urban architecture through regional, national, and global lenses.

We are consolidating our growth and development around these values. In February 2023, we will launch the inaugural Urban Transformation Summer School in association with the Parramatta Powerhouse (Supported by Holdmark). The Summer School will be focused on the Urban Transformation of Western Sydney, delivered in the format of a ‘ Think Tank’ focused broadly on design/place-making solutions to current local government challenges through defined project themes (ie. Culture/ liveability/ density & development/ public space). WSU Master of Architecture students will work throughout the Summer School intensive week on a focused design research projects that will be facilitated by industry leaders. The Summer School is funded for 10 years, and the longitudinal research outcomes will contribute back to the local areas of study, but also provide valuable data to input into the newly established Urban Transformations Research Centre

The architecture section of the exhibition presents a selection of student work from first year undergraduate through to capstone Masters projects - that demonstrate the progressive development of study, and is evidence of our holistic approach to the transformation of urban environments through excellence in architectural design.
