With strong curiosity and passion for imaginative problem solving, my fondness for design grew, and is still growing. I'm Jessy, an Industrial Designer that thrives on adventure, exploration, and growth, with interest in various aspects of design such as furniture, packaging and fashion etc. In my view, design is where art and problem solving come together, allowing for practical art to be produced that benefits its users, at numerous levels. In the present world where disposability has become habitual, I find beauty in matured products that have undergone repairs and refurbishments as not only it extends its useful life, being more considerate of the environment and materials that we use, but it also tells a story. Bringing personality, sentiment and comfort to an inanimate object where despite having the same item, the emotional bond and story may be different to each individual.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The staff workspace in Western Sydney University's Parramatta Engineering and Innovation Hub (WSU PEIH) is an open plan workspace dedicated mainly towards academics within Engineering, Design, and Built Environment disciplines. Despite being the only staff workspace in the building, its utilisation rate is at a low where users prefer working in other spaces such as teaching rooms, cafes, or in the makerspace workshop due to the lack of boundaries, natural lighting and frequent visual and auditory distractions. Aequus is aimed to demonstrate and bring a sense of balance to a space. When introduced to a workspace, it not only adapts and supports users during work, but also encourages leisure as that is when creative ideas tend to transpire. Illustrated through its sharp and hard structure that accompanied by its rounded and soft upholstery which emerges into one another, it allows users to stop and recollect the importance of having a healthy equilibrium with all aspects in life to maintain good mental and physical wellbeing.
