Hi my name is Gerwyn and I am currently a student at Western Sydney Uni, undertaking the Bachelor's of Architectural Design and it truly had been a bumpy ride so far. Taking this course is definitely an amazing opportunity for me to spread my creativity and creative thinking. My approach is driven by a strong appreciation for design and art, which helps me find imaginative solutions.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This design seeks to harmonize the built form with the rhythms of human activity, non-human presence, and environmental conditions. Serving the person who wishes to adopt our cat ‘Murv’. The design physically engages with ephemeral forces through adjustable sliding panels that articulate thresholds, telling stories through varied spatial framing. Sliding the panels outwards will create a more intimate space sheltering individuals while welcoming both ground and sky. On the other hand sliding it back to its original position creates an open prospect welcoming ephemeral forces like wind, sun, rain, birds, fallen leaves or insects, promoting a more blissful and welcoming experience during the adoption phase. The fan-like roof structure provides shade, shelter, and seasonal responsiveness. The standing wall with windows serves both as an active space for ‘Murv’, openings that are inspired by ‘SANAA Architects’, as well as a functional table for humans fostering intimate refuge. Installation of plastic mesh will serve as an enclosure for the cat during the meet and greet. This see-through material creates less stress for the cat while also creating a slow introduction to the space for both individuals, as well as mitigating the idea of separation during the interaction. Aluminum honeycomb core panel with a flat and matte finishing exterior across both standing panels, windows sash and roofing. This lightweight yet sturdy choice of material can also be easily disassembled to take with them in the ‘Forever Home’ phase. The concrete that will permanently stay on the site will serve as a space for future events, or a space for connecting human and non-human qualities.
